Having backups is a good idea in general even if you don't plan upgrading. Some could solutions allow free usage for a short time like a week or even a month. Upgrade itself should not be too risky, but it is possible to accidentally delete data while performing clean install. When you do upgrade, please make sure to back everything up and have the copy somewhere outside of your computer for the duration of upgrade.
Personally I would not recommend rushing an upgrade like this, use older version of OBS if you really need to. Windows 7 is out of support already so yeah you would want to move on eventually.
